Licensed Practical Nurse receives Medal of Merit from his professional order
Congratulations to Rubathas Somasundaram, a Licensed Practical Nurse, who was recognized by his professional order for distinguishing himself during his studies. Mr. Somasudaram won the Medal of Merit from the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers auxiliaires du Québec, which is awarded for “the professional behaviour of the most deserving student.” Mr. Somasundaram studied in the Health, Assistance and Nursing Program at the West Island Career Centre from 2020 to 2022. During his studies, he inoculated members of the public at the Décarie Square vaccination site, where he continues to administer COVID-19 and influenza vaccines.
“On numerous occasions, Mr. Somasundaram has demonstrated his professionalism and commitment to providing quality care to all clients,” says Dana Porubska, Coordinator for COVID-19 vaccination at Décarie Square and Parc-Extension. “He has become a valued member of our Multiservice team for his ability to acquire new knowledge, to problem solve and to always demonstrate compassion and concern for safety. His collaborative and adaptive contributions have been essential to the efficiency and quality of our CIUSSS’s health mission.”
JGH volunteer proud to be one of the hospital’s “angels”
See the golden, angel-shaped pin on the jacket that identifies Rebecca Leroux as a JGH volunteer? She got it from a grateful patient who told her, “It takes an angel to work in a hospital.” This outpouring of appreciation is what keeps Ms. Leroux—and hundreds of other volunteers across CIUSSS West-Central Montreal—highly motivated to regularly give of themselves. Ms. Leroux, 20, has even taken the extra step of helping to recruit fellow students at Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf to become volunteers.

Celebrating 35 years of the Technical Aids Service
Lethbridge-Layton-Mackay Rehabilitation Centre's Technical Aids Service (TAS) recently celebrated its 35th anniversary. The celebration also highlighted its staff, who have so diligently provided quality services to clients and the community over the years. On the occasion of Gratitude Week, we would like to thank all of you—employees of the TAS and the Rehabilitation Centre—for your dedication.
A tea of gratitude for SAPA employees
Thanks to the generosity of DAVIDs TEA, the employees of our six CHSLDs and Mount Sinai Hospital enjoyed a tea break. For many of the managers on site, depending on the shift, this break was an opportunity to hand out a box of assorted tea bags and to express their appreciation for the work carried out daily by each member of their team. Cheers to you all!
Care Everywhere: Through Patient Eyes
"You're just more comfortable at home. It's just amazing." — John Truss, patient
Back in December, John nearly died, and spent more than a week in a coma at the Jewish General Hospital. Thanks to the expert care he received at the JGH and the opportunity to fully-recover at home under the watchful eye of our CIUSSS's award-winning Hospital@Home program, John was able to see his wife and two young children again. Hear from John on his recovery as a grateful patient of Hospital@Home, and
from our colleagues, who are proud to participate in this pace-setting initiative, which exemplifies what Care Everywhere is all about.
