Characteristics of the CIUSSS Population

Data on our population:

  • In 2018, 371,500 people lived on our territory, which represents 18% of the population of Montreal.
  • The ages of the CIUSSS West-Central Montreal population break down as follows: 18% are 17 or under, 65% are 18 to 64, and 17% are 65 or over.
  • Four out of 10 people who live on the CIUSSS West-Central Montreal territory have an immigrant background, and 1/10 immigrated in the past five years. On the Island of Montreal as a whole, an average of 3.3/10 people are immigrants, and less than 1/10 are recent immigrants.
  • Nearly 3% of the population on the territory of CIUSSS West-Central Montreal is unable to have a conversation in either of Canada’s official languages.
  • One out of five people lives beneath the low-income threshold. This population is concentrated in the De la Montagne sector in particular. However, the CIUSSS West-Central Montreal territory has the most materially well-off population on average.
  • One out of every 10 people has a mental disorder, which mirrors the Montreal average.
  • In 2016, the suicide rate was 7.3 suicides per 100,000 residents, which was considerably lower than the rate for Montreal overall, where there were 10.7 suicides per 100,000 residents.
