Our mission

The mission of the Saint Margaret Day Centre and the MAB-SAPA Day Centre is to support older adults in maintaining their independence while enhancing their quality of life through an interdisciplinary and holistic approach to well-being.

Who are the day centers for?

The Saint Margaret Day Centre and the MAB-SAPA Day Centre offer programs for adults aged 65 and over who are experiencing some loss of autonomy but continue to live at home on the island of Montreal.

Our daily activities help older adults preserve and enhance their social and cognitive skills, while also supporting their mobility and physical well-being.

Operating hours

Open Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Clients attend once a week.

Days are structured based on clients’ overall functional abilities and shared interests.

Please note: We do not provide transportation. Participants must arrange their own travel via adapted transport, family, or private drivers.

Programming

Our daily on-site programming includes a variety of social, cognitive, educational, therapeutic, and recreational activities, such as:

  • Music and art therapy
  • Baking workshops
  • Exercise sessions
  • Discussion groups on current events and topics of interest

The Saint Margaret Day Centre

In addition to our onsite day program we also offer:

Virtual Inclusion Program

Launched in March 2022, this unique program allows seniors to connect virtually from home using an iPad to participate in real-time activities happening at Saint Margaret Day Centre.

Older adults who cannot attend in person due to physical or medical limitations receive visits from an educator or volunteer.

The educator/volunteer provides an iPad and assists them in joining the day center’s activities virtually.

In-Home Stimulation Project

This program supports clients who cannot physically attend the day centers due to medical reasons, while also providing respite for caregivers.

Clients receive visits from students specializing in social work or special care counselling.

One-on-one stimulation activities include:

  • Cognitive games
  • Social discussions
  • Personalized exercise programs

The MAB-SAPA Day Centre

The MAB-SAPA Day Centre integrates the MAB Day Centre and the former Parc-Extension Day Centre.  The integrated day centre is designed to enhance the quality and scope of services offered to clients aged 65 and older, with or without visual impairments; the ultimate goal is always about maintaining autonomy at home.

These enhancements provide our clients with an integrated program tailored for older individuals, with a new service offer adapted to the needs of a multi-centric, specialized clientele. While the MAB-SAPA Day Centre offers care for the elderly and care for clients with sensory impairments, it remains committed to providing and continuing to develop an innovative and stimulating program that enriches the quality of life for all our clients.

The MAB-SAPA site offers a safe and accessible environment for all users, featuring:

  • Multiple rooms to facilitate simultaneous activities
  • A beautiful outdoor space for walking and gardening activities
  • Available parking for staff and clients / families
  • The proximity of motor and sensory rehabilitation services for all users
  • Expertise in geriatric care developed by the SAPA team and provided to all users
  • Supporting independence and enhancing quality of life

The teams of the Saint Margaret Day Centre and the MAB-SAPA Day Centre are part of the SAPA program (Support Program for the Autonomy of Seniors) within CIUSSS West-Central Montreal.
