Energy Efficiency

Our CIUSSS is proud of having launched a major energy efficiency project, which began in August 2019 and will be completed in May 2021.

A total of 47 energy-efficient measures are and will be implemented at the Jewish General, Mount Sinai, Richardson and Catherine Booth Hospitals; the Father Dowd, Henri Bradet, Saint Andrew and Saint Margaret's Residential Centres; Donald Berman Maimonides Geriatric Centre; and Miriam Home and Services. Upgrades to LED general lighting, boiler rooms and automation systems, as well as the use of heat pump and aerothermal technologies, are just a few examples of these measures.

On the environmental front, the project will allow our CIUSSS to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 49%. This represents a reduction of 6,173 tons of CO2 emissions, the equivalent of approximately 2,128 fewer cars on the road per year. It also represents a reduction in annual energy consumption of 39.3 million kWh, comparable to the energy consumption of approximately 1,637 homes per year.

This large-scale project involves investments of $18.8 million; our CIUSSS is pleased to benefit from grants totalling $6.7 million. The measures that are implemented will ensure annual energy savings of $1.4 million, or a 23% reduction in energy bills.
