Volunteer opportunities:

Volunteers play a vital role in our long term care facilities. Most participate during the weekdays, however, there are some who volunteer in the evenings or on the weekends. Volunteer opportunities currently available include:

Recreation Activities offer opportunities for residents to socialize with others. Volunteers help prepare and assist with the activities (concerts, games, outings, barbecues, discussion groups, films, etc.), accompany residents from their rooms to the activity area, socialize with them, and serve refreshments.

St. Margaret Day Centre provides a morning or afternoon of activities for seniors living at home who have physical and/or cognitive deficits. The main goals of the day centre is to enable isolated seniors to receive recreation stimulation and to provide their caregivers with a respite break. Volunteers assist staff with a wide range of tasks.

Feeding Assistance: Due to physical disabilities or memory loss some residents require assistance to eat their meals. Volunteers can help with breakfast, lunch or supper. Many volunteers help in this capacity before or after assisting with a recreation activity.

Pastoral Care is provided to the residents on a one to one basis by volunteers. The volunteers also help with church services by bringing the residents to and from where it is being  held.

Friendly Visiting: Volunteers visit isolated residents. When a resident does not speak English or French, effort is made to match the person with a volunteer who can speak the same language. Visits can be made during the week or the week-ends.

Weekends: At St. Margaret, St. Andrew and Henri-Bradet, volunteers can help with recreational activities on the weekends. Volunteers need to work independently since recreational staff are generally not on duty on the weekends.

One time Activities: Volunteers help with tasks such as fundraisers, decorating the residences during the holidays, and accompaniment on group outings.
